Urban Food Farms and Startup Nurseries

Through a process of internships offered to exiting military servicemembers at the installations above, teams of 10-12 servicemember/interns will be trained in establishing and maintaining a permaculture urban food farm that will provide fresh and organic produce to their communities. Concurrently, they will begin building a local “Library of Plants” that will produce root stocks, starter plants, and seeds at the local/regional level. Additional opportunities in related businesses such as landscape installation & design, land restoration from toxic herbicides/pesticides, and planning for additional food farms/nurseries regionally will be provided.
Once these pilot programs are operational (GOAL: Summer 2024), and best practices established; additional sites, industry/nonprofit partners and billets for servicemember internships will become available.
